Undelivered messages to Host AP mailing list

Host AP mailing list accepts automatically messages only from addresses that are subscribed to the list (due to spam and virus/worms). Ezmlm, the software taking care of Host AP mailing list, is quite strict about the addresses (e.g., my messages from home would not have been delivered without extra configuration ;-).

It is possible to subscribe other addresses to hostap-allow_at_lists.ssh.com list to help this a bit. All addresses on hostap-allow list are allowed to send messages to hostap list, but the messages are delivered only to the addresses subscribed to hostap list.

The messages that are not accepted are queued for manual approval. I try to check this queue every now and then, but there may be some delays (especially during summer). Apparently, there is also one week expiration date for this queue (of which I did not know previously). Following messages were expired from the queue, so I cannot just approve them, but have included them below.

Yes. iwconfig shows that rate of the wlan0 is 2Mb/s but =
  when i     make    iwconfig  wlan0  txpower   100 ( 100 is just  for =
test ,   so  200 ,300    etc...)     i  always  downloading  with    5 =
Mb/s .
Otherwise    i've  just  downloaded  with  1 Mb/s.

 By the way i have tested it on 22-24 Km ( with external anntena of =
course ) and I get the same result.
By default downloading is 1 mb/s and after iwconfig =
wlan0 txpower 100 or higher downloading is =20
5 Mb/s  .

Is there anyone that have geting works LinkSys WAP11 runing as =
client to LinkSys WMP11 in HostAP mode ?

Best regards

Actually, I think I cracked this myself.

Within /usr/src/pcmcia-cs-3.1.34/modules/prism2.c (note slightly later
version but still suffers same problem) at line 58 is a test

#if (LINUX_VERSION_CODE < KERNEL_VERSION(2,4,0))
...
#endif

In between are some #undef min and #undef max statements designed to be
executed only for versions prior to 2.4. In fact they are also needed
for 2.4.9-34 (can't comment on other versions). So I commented out the
#if (LINUX_VERSION_CODE... Test and its #endif, leaving the #undefs
between them to be run. Seems to have worked- the pcmcia package now
builds. Don't know whether there is a knock-on effect yet of course.

(http://www.brightstareng.com/arm/mediaeng.htm) I wrote a simple little script to perform wep key rotation and change the key with which my AP transmits data every minute or so. When the system first boots up, I give it all four keys like so: iwconfig wlan0 key key1 [1] iwconfig wlan0 key key2 [2] iwconfig wlan0 key key3 [3] iwconfig wlan0 key key4 [4] It defaults to using the first key, which is fine. According to the iwconfig docs, I should be able to say `iwconfig wlan0 key [2]` and have it switch to key2. This doesn't work with the hostap driver. Running that command disables wep key encryption all together. Also, just running `iwconfig wlan0 key key2 [2]` doesn't work as the card stays using key 1. I have to disable wep key encryption and then re-enable it with my script before the active transmitting key can change. A few packets get dropped when this happens. Is there any way around this? I'm using version 3 of the Linksys wpc11 (prism3 chipset). Warner Losh" <imp_at_village.org> OK. I've spent a fair amount of time debugging a problem with the FreeBSD HostAP mode. I'm using the following hardware: wi0: <Intersil Prism2.5> mem 0xfebff000-0xfebfffff irq 11 at device 17.0 on pci0 wi0: 802.11 address: 00:90:4b:0d:ff:19 wi0: using RF:PRISM2.5 MAC:ISL3874A(Mini-PCI) wi0: Intersil Firmware: Primary 1.00.05, Station 1.03.04 The problem that I'm having is that the Cisco 340 card that I have isn't associating with the AP. Most other cards associate no problem, but this one has an issue. I created one machine running the HostAP software, one running prism2dump and one with the cisco card. I find that when I associate with a commercial AP, I get approximately the following: Cisco -> AP AUTH AP -> Cisco ctl-ack ap -> cisco auth cisco -> ap ctl-ack etc However, when I try against the FreeBSD HostAP code, I see the following: Cisco -> AP AUTH (seq 1) AP -> Cisco ctl-ack ap -> cisco auth (seq 2) Cisco -> AP AUTH (seq 1) Cisco -> AP AUTH (seq 1) Cisco -> AP AUTH (seq 1) Cisco -> AP AUTH (seq 1) etc >>From debug info in the driver, I've found that the card is supposedly sending the response each time. Notice two differences. First, there's no ctl-ack from the ap -> cisco. Second, it appears that the cisco never gets the auth(2) the freebsd hostap sends. And the freebsd ap driver seems to stop sending things to this card. Different cards (prism2 and lucent) work both before, during and after I try to associate the Cisco card. The cards are all within range of the hostap (5' away, with both the stock antenna, and a 6dBi discone that I built), so that's not the problem. I was wondering if anybody else has run into this in the Linux world when the hostap driver was being developed. Barring that, any suggestions for ways to track it down? I've wondered this. charted a few sample points and it looks to be an almost linear relationship to the dBm read off with iwconfig for that location. but it's tricky to tell. I notice that the values returned in the header are different from those returned in the comms quality mibs. I get values close to 60 right next to the AP, 13 or so is the lowest i'm able to reliably associate with. and i occasionally see stuff all the way down to about 3. This maps to something along the lines of this from what I was able to determine experimentally, though it really is a big hack: #define P2DBM(x) (((x) * 12285714 - 1028857143)/10000000) where x is the value from the header. Again, it's a big shot in the sky guess since i don't have any access to real information, or an independant method of determining the real dBm values. -- Gerald ======================================================================== Date: Tue, 2 Jul 2002 15:22:08 -0400 From: Gerald Britton <gbritton_at_doomcom.org> To: Tiebing Zhang <tzhang_at_3eti.com> Cc: Vincas Ciziunas <winkie_at_faceprint.com>, hostap_at_lists.ssh.com Subject: Re: Prism Monitoring header signal portion to dBi Message-ID: <20020702152208.A32647_at_nevermore.toe.doomcom.org> References: <Pine.LNX.4.21.0207021226240.6090-100000_at_think.faceprint.com> <Pine.LNX.4.43.0207021458590.7156-100000_at_localhost.localdomain> In-Reply-To: <Pine.LNX.4.43.0207021458590.7156-100000_at_localhost.localdomain>; from tzhang_at_3eti.com on Tue, Jul 02, 2002 at 03:00:44PM -0400 On Tue, Jul 02, 2002 at 03:00:44PM -0400, Tiebing Zhang wrote:

This is very clearly wrong for the signal strength information I get in the rx header on my card (MiniPCI card in an IBM Thinkpad), you endup with it saying -140 dBm signal, -200 dBm noise level about 4ft away from the AP. or something roughly that insane. -- Gerald ========================================================================
