I think there are different versions of the "old DWL-650". The one I have tested has quite old firmware (0.7.6) and older NIC version and requires an additional port reset to get the Host AP mode running. Other than that, it works fine.

The driver should not give kernel oops no matter what card is used (i.e., if it does, it is a bug).. Could you please send me the oops message after it has been processed with ksymoops (i.e., with symbols resolved)?
