Is my card dead?

It initialized, but LinkStatus=2 seems permanent. It fails to function in IBSS mode, it seems to fail in Infrastructure mode, and now I'm getting a log flood of these strange messages:

Sep 12 13:40:02 rebecca kernel: wlan0: prism2_send_mgmt - device is not UP - cannot send frame
Sep 12 13:40:02 rebecca kernel: wlan0: 00:06:25:a9:f7:da auth (alg=0 trans#=1 stat=0 len=6fc=00b0) ==> 0 (authenticated) Sep 12 13:40:04 rebecca kernel: wlan0: prism2_send_mgmt - device is not UP - cannot send frame

I've now turned the machine off and back on again twice with no change in the result.

Has my card suffered a catastrophic failure or something?
