Thanks for those who replied.

I finally found out the problem. PCMCIA is not set right on my host. I was fiddling with all the modules, but I forgot to start the cardmgr!

For those who are interested, here is the file that I changed on a redhat 7.x machine.

/etc/sysconfig/pcmcia:

PCMCIA=yes
PCIC=yenta_socket
#PCIC_OPTS=do_scan=0
PCIC_OPTS=
CORE_OPTS=
CARDMGR_OPTS=-f

Now simply start /etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia and things are working beautifully.
