I have just gone through several of the archives' emails and solved several of my "modprobe" problems. These errors, however, are new to me and apparently not in the mailing list either (sorry, if I'm wrong). I want to make a desktop into an access point and am trying to install the Host AP driver to work with a linksys WMP11 PCI card.
Installing the driver is fine...
root_at_balix:/home/marcia/Prism2-2002-05-19# make pci
gcc -I/usr/src/linux/include -O2 -D__KERNEL__ -DMODULE -Wall -c -fomit-frame-pointer -o driver/modules/hostap_pci.o driver/modules/hostap_pci.c
Run 'make install_pccard' as a root to install hostap_cs.o Run 'make install_plx' as a root to install hostap_plx.o Run 'make install_pci' as a root to install hostap_pci.o
root_at_balix:/home/marcia/Prism2-2002-05-19# make install_pci
Installing hostap_pci.o to /lib/modules/2.4.18/net
mkdir -p /lib/modules/2.4.18/net
cp driver/modules/hostap_pci.o /lib/modules/2.4.18/net
....up to this point: when I have to do "modprobe hostap_pci". This is what comes up:
root_at_balix:/home/marcia/Prism2-2002-05-19# modprobe hostap_pci
/lib/modules/2.4.18/net/hostap_pci.o: init_module: No such device
/lib/modules/2.4.18/net/hostap_pci.o: Hint: insmod errors can be caused by
incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.18/net/hostap_pci.o: insmod hostap_pci failed
I suspected an IRQ conflict, but I'm not sure that's the case. After checking the var/log/messages there was a statement saying this:
PCI: using IRQ router....
but no specific warning about trouble in that area.
Does anyone have suggestions? I'd be delighted to hear them!
