how to inject and sniff at the same time

hi:
  can I actually inject packets through wireless card and sniff packets in the same time ? i have trouble doing this since i have to define a new veriable to inject modified packet, and the sniffing seems not working any more.   i want to do some experiment of the speed of association, like keep trying get associated to a access point for a certain amount of time to see how many times i can accomplished . anyone have some idea how to do it?   thanks a lot for your help.
