Yes, you will need to build kernel driver (with PRISM2_HOSTAPD defined) and hostapd separately. Kernel driver must also be initialized just like when using driver to take care of management functions. hostapd daemon will then need to be run separately.

Quite limited.. README.prism2 has some information in IEEE 802.1X section.
