fail to use iwconfig to set parameters

Hi:

I have successfully installed and run the HOSTAP in my Redhat 7.2. I used the version Prism2-2002-05-19. I used the wireless-tools from the Redhat 7.2.

However, I could not use iwconfig to set parameters. I read previous emails about this topic. Have not found the similiar problem I met.

I could use "iwconfig wlan0" to view the data. but when I run iwconfig wlan0 essid XXXX
iwconfig wlan0 channel X
...

I always got "SIOCSIWXXXX: Operation not permitted".

What did I do wrong? Thanks.
