Ok, I've backed off pcmcia-cs to 3.1.27 and HostAP to 2002-4-24 and I don't get the kernel lockups anymore. What I do get is posted below. For some reason I can use the wvlan_cs driver (included with pcmcia-cs-3.1.27) and things seems to load fine, but with HostAP it seems that the card is shutting down for some reason. I have tinkered with a cis file, but with my lack of experience i'm just shooting in the dark.

Alpha Kernel 2.4.16 running on a Alpha Multia, pcmcia-3.1.27 and Prism-2002-4-24 (compiled with -mno-fp-regs -ffixed-8)
