That is not necessarily true... They might not broadcast the SSID (i.e. not send out beacon frames), but you could still get it to show up in scans... Just look for probe response frames (which I believe the AP *needs* to send out). It might break some scan tools that just rely on beacons to detect APs, but it doesn't entail all that much tweakin' to make it look at probe response as well... (since the capability info sent back in both cases are identical).

But as to your question, I'm not entirely sure HostAP supports it, I'm fairly sure it CAN, since all that needs is to set the beacon interval to be something like infinity, or just off altogether...

I'm just speaking on top of my head, so whatever I put up there might be completely bogus... but its simply based on my experience with 802.11b so far, and I'm not entirely sure 'closed' mode is really anything but a marketing gimmick to make it seem more secure when it really isn't...
