driver problems with Zoomair 4100

I'm having trouble getting my Zoomair 4100 to work with the latest host AP driver (2-13-2002). My setup is as follows...

distro -- debian 2.2r5
kernel -- 2.4.18 (fresh from kernel.org)
pcmcia -- built into the kernel

I installed the driver with no apparent problems. However, when I go to use it, it will send out beacons...but other machines cannot associate with it b/c this machine never sends the probe response messages.

Could this be a kernel version issue? Or, are there certain options in the kernel that should be turned on that I've missed. I'd appreciate any insight. Thanks...
