SIOCGIWAPLIST is deprecated in new wireless extensions API. You should use 'iwlist wlan0 scan' to get information access point in the range. Current version of Host AP driver supports 'scan' in managed mode and 'ap' in master mode. Scanning support might require host-based roaming with some firmware versions and the results are also available from procfs file scan_results.
