Yes, and both packet receiving and sending seem to work fine at least for management frames.

Have you tested sniffing packets in the AP host with 'tcpdump -ni wlan0' and then trying to ping the AP address from the station? This should first show a ARP request packet and then the ping packets. If any of these packets are received, there might be something blocking the packets (firewall entry, rp_filter). If none of the packets get through, I would check that both ends have disabled WEP and re-test.
